READ Hebrews 13:10-16 “In Relation To God”

QUESTIONS:

  1. Read v. 11-12.  Outside the camp was a place of shame and burnt animal carcasses.  It was not a pleasant place. After an animal was burnt on the altar for the sins of the people in the OT, what was left was taken outside the camp and burned completely up.  So also, Jesus went outside the camp, to a place of death, and died as a sacrifice for us to accomplish something.  According to v. 12, what did Jesus’ death accomplish? What does that mean?

  2. There are 2 things going on here.  Everything the Hebrews knew and were comfortable with was inside the camp.  The people of Israel, the Tabernacle, friends, family, etc.  But outside the camp was where the greatest need would be.  There are people out there who do not know God.  Also, it is outside the camp where Jesus died.  Jews would have to leave everything they knew as familiar in worship and embrace Jesus’ death on the cross.  This brings a very important question.  Should we pursue the need or what is comfortable? Let’s look at what Jesus did.  Jesus left everything that was comfortable, went outside the camp, and purchased for himself a people to sanctify and save.  He went to the need!  Not the Comfortable!  Jesus has set us apart to do the same.  Will you stay comfortable inside the camp, or will you go to the need outside the camp?  Consider both options.  What will it cost you to stay comfortable inside the camp?

  3. What will it cost you to go the need outside the camp?

  4. Read v. 13.  The best part of going outside the camp is that’s where Jesus is.  That’s where we experience him most sweetly.  Why can you not experience the sweet fellowship with Jesus that he desires inside the camp where it’s comfortable? Why is fellowship with Jesus sweeter outside the camp where the need is?

  5. What does it mean for you personally to go outside the camp?  Where do you need to suffer for Christ?

  6. Faith is the assurance of a better and lasting possession.  Read v. 14.  How does this compliment our definition of faith?

  7. Read v 15.  How can your life be a continual offering of praise to God?

  8. Read v. 16.  Giving and serving are close to the heart of God.  How did Jesus always show a giving and serving heart?  Give specific examples.

  9. How do you need to go outside the camp to serve and give?
