THE BOOK OF HEBREWS
Section 1:
THE SUPREMACY OF CHRIST’S POSITION
Hebrews 1:1-4:13
What is Christ greater than? We know in the Bible there are some pretty amazing things and people. Can you imagine seeing the glory of the Lord fall in the Tabernacle? Can you imagine meeting Moses face to face? The one who parted the Red Sea and brought the 10 Commandments down from Sinai. Could you imagine actually seeing an angel face to face?
All those things are awesome, but there is something greater. Not just greater in degree, but greater in essence and existence. Jesus Christ! Section 1 will show us all how great Jesus Christ is and how far superior he is to all things!

QUESTIONS:
In verse 1 the author says God has spoken in many ways. What are some ways God has revealed or communicated himself to man in the past? List specific ways, people, and/or passages.
In verse 2, the author begins to list differences. Can you find at least 3 major differences the author is showing between verses 1 and 2?
Why do you believe, as early as the first 2 verses of Hebrews, the author is comparing the way things used to be to the way they are now after Christ? What is his purpose?
In verse 3 there is a word translated “radiance” or “brightness” of God’s glory. This is the only place in the entire New Testament this word is found. It means, “to send forth or produce light”. It does not mean reflection. Why is it a big deal that Christ is the “radiance” of God’s glory and not the “reflection” of God’s glory? Why is this important?
In verse 3, the Greek word “charakter” is found and means the “exact imprint” or “expressed image”. This word was used during this time to express the idea of stamping a face on a coin. Explain what it means that Jesus was the “charakter” or “exact imprint” of God.
After reflecting on what you’ve written above, explain why Jesus had to be the one to provide purification for our sins. How did he do it?
Jesus was like no other…existing as fully God. He did what no other could do…existing as fully man. Verse 3 says he sat down at the right hand of Majesty. Do you think it is significant that Jesus sat down on the throne after completing his work? If so, why? What is significant about Jesus sitting down? Why could only Jesus sit there? What does this mean for us?
The first 3 verses of Hebrews really set the theme of the entire book. The author is showing us that Jesus is like nothing else you’ve known or seen. In the space below, tell Jesus why he’s important to you and why you love him.
