READ Hebrews 3:1-6 – “Superior to Moses”

QUESTIONS:

  1. Again, this section of Scripture begins with the word “therefore”.  The author is again calling to mind everything that has already been discussed.  Then the author does an amazing thing.  As though he knows we are thinking back to all the amazing things we’ve already learned about Jesus he says one thing, “Consider Jesus”.  This is the author’s way of saying, “WOW!  We must treasure Christ above all!”  By way of review, look back and write 3 reasons you treasure Christ today.

  2. Jesus is called an “apostle” and “high priest”.  Research these terms and explain why these are appropriate titles for Jesus.

  3. In verses 3-4, the word translated “house”, isn’t talking about an actual structure but of a group of people, or possibly “household” or “family”.  So if it were translated a little more literally it would read similar to this, “The builder of a family has more honor than the family itself.”  Explain how this can help you understand why Jesus is greater than Moses.

  4. In verses 5-6, the author of Hebrews gives Moses and Jesus two different titles.  What are they?  Why are they important?  And how are they different?

  5. The end of verse 6 is a very powerful statement. It says, “And we are his house (family) if indeed we hold fast our confidence and our boasting in our hope.” This is not telling us how to be saved or how to remain saved. It is a simple statement of fact. IF you are in the family of God, you consistently hold fast, cling to, and treasure Christ. Look back over the past month, 6 months, and the last year of your life. Do you see consistent growth in how you hold fast to Christ? Explain.
