READ Hebrews 11:23-28 “Heroes of the Faith”

QUESTIONS:

  1. Write out your definition of faith.

  2. Is Jesus worthy of your faith?  Why?  Do you believe Jesus is greater than EVERYTHING this world has to offer?  (Riches, popularity, acceptance, friends, wife, children, pleasures, etc)

  3. Read verse 23.  Feel the intensity of this moment.  If you are found with a child you will be killed!  Without questions!  How could Moses’ parents not fear the king’s decree and keep Moses?

  4. Read verses 24-25.  Again, feel the intense struggle at this moment.  Don’t just read this as a good story of a good man.  That’s not the point!  That’s not why the author of Hebrews put this in the book.  Imagine yourself there.  Do you treasure Christ and all that he is as worthy to do what Moses did?  Why or why not?

  5. Read verse 26.  THIS IS AMAZING!  Moses was given the choice of choosing all the riches of the most powerful country in the world at this time or suffering like Christ would suffer with the people of God.  If you were given the choice to have direct access to the bank account of the United States of America or be given a ticket to go to a church in North Korea that needs encouragement from being under persecution, which would you choose?  Be very careful how you answer.  Explain you answer.

  6. What would have to be true for you to choose to go to North Korea for Christ?  (remember the definition of faith from Hebrews 11:1 & 10:34.)

  7. Verse 28 really gets to the heart of faith in many ways.  The verse is saying that Moses feared him who is invisible more than the anger of a Pharaoh who was visible.  Why is this a beautiful picture of faith?

  8. Do you act as though God is always visible before you?  Do you make decisions and live your life with that mentality?  Why or why not?

  9. Verse 28 is also a very intense moment for Moses.  Many times we are guilty of removing the emotion or struggle of characters in the Bible.  We often think, “Oh, that’s Moses, no wonder he acted so courageously.”  We must realize this is a common man in the middle of common people and God had just said he was going to kill every firstborn in the land who didn’t have the blood of the lamb over the door.  If you were given this message how would you react?

  10. Why did it show great faith in how Moses did act?

  11. How has Moses given you a clearer picture of what authentic saving faith is?
